DISCOVERY FOR MEN

Gen. 1:26 says ‘And God said, let Us make man in Our image…and let them have dominion.’ This is the anchor scripture of the Discovery for Men and it depicts the vision of the outreach Ministry to men as divinely received by Pastor Taiwo Odukoya, the senior pastor of Fountain of Life Church, Ilupeju, Lagos, who is the President of the ministry.

Pastor Taiwo Odukoya, since his days as a Petroleum Engineer, with theNigerian NationalPetroleum Corporation (NNPC), fervently believes that the prosperity of nations begins in the homes of its people and the prosperity of the homes depends on the prosperity of men (spirit, soul and body) as the heads of the homes. He also believes that the prosperity of men is tied to the prosperity of their souls, which begins with a genuine encounter with God through His Son, Jesus Christ. Pastor Taiwo believes that when a man encounters Christ, he is empowered to serve his family, community, workplace and nations as a servant leader.

The Discovery for Men Rally is today, the biggest gathering of men in Nigeria and arguably Africa. Between Sunday, April 19, 1997, when the first rally was held on the premises of The Fountain of Life Church, Ilupeju and today, over fifty-four thousand men have been hosted.

The Discovery Rally, as it is popularly referred today has not only become a household name within and outside the Christian circles in Nigeria but has metamorphosed into a formidable movement of purposeful men, who are empowered to serve their families, community, workplaces and nations.

By the grace and mercies of God, the Discovery Rally has today become a strong reference point to many men, who have discovered God’s purpose and plans for their lives and the knowledge, skills and attitude to pursue same with outstanding successes and globally recognized impacts. Testimonies local job listings abound of the transformation, which many men have experienced as a result of being associated with the Discovery Rally.

Teaching men all over this vast nation, Nigeria, that the idea, from creation, was for men to go forward and conquer, take new territories, overcome all obstacles, win the war – not just the battles – against greed, indolence, debauchery, drunkenness…and serve God. This continues to be the singular purpose of every Discovery for Men quarterly rally since 1997. These rallies had been largely held in Lagos, but occasionally in Enugu, Calabar, Eket, Uyo and Abeokuta thereby giving the men in these cities a chance to enjoy the fellowship which the rallies always engender.

The Discovery Enhancement Program is a platform, through which the ministry prepares men for life and the workplace. The program runs regularly as workshops, where celebrated family men, high-flying professionals and committed community leaders, who are best described as all-round achievers, are invited to share their stories and the godly principles, which form the bedrock of their life, family and professional accomplishments.

It is an unusual and priceless opportunity for men to learn at the feet of the masters of their fields. Some of the men, who have mentored men on the platform of the Discovery for Men Enhancement Program, include Zach Wazara, Mr. Gamaliel Onosode, Mr. Felix Ohiwerei, and Dr. Christopher Kolade. On October 31, 2015, the Discovery for Men Enhancement platform hosted Chief Olusegun Osunkeye at a mentoring programme that was open to both men and women.
